There are currently 850,000 people diagnosed with Dementia in the UK.
Dementia is an umbrella term that describes a set of symptoms that affect the working of the brain.
Dementia affects the brain by damaging sections of it overtime, this results in brain failure. The cause of Dementia is current unknown and there is no current cure. However, there is medication that can reduce the symptoms people experience and with tender loving care people can lead a relatively normal life for as long as possible.
Alzheimer’s is the most common type of dementia. This is followed by vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies and Picks disease.
However, the different types of dementia will affect the brain at different rates and in different ways, its progress is unique to everyone.
Dementia is not exclusive to the over 65’s, younger people can get dementia too.
Early Signs of Dementia:
• Short term memory loss
• Difficulty with thinking
• Difficulty with problem solving
• Difficulty with language
• Changes in mood
• Changes in behaviour
Dementia Care is a specialised area that Prepare4care support and thoroughly train their Care Workers to fully understand. This results in Care Workers that are fully trained and qualified to a high standard to be able to provide the support not only for the diagnosed individual but for the family members/loved ones also. Prepare4care fully recognise the outstanding need for Care Workers to be competent and efficient to support a person who may have Dementia, to support all their requirements, health needs and to live a life they deserve! At Prepare4care all Care Workers are fully trained to spot the early signs of Dementia. This results in a better Plan of Care being provided for the individual and their support network.
We see the person and never the disease!
Dementia does not just affect the individual, but it can be a very difficult process for the individual’s family/loved ones. To watch a person, you love the most go through a process that you are unable to stop, or cure can be one of the most difficult periods in a person’s life. Therefore, it is so very important to Prepare4care that they offer support to not just the individual but to the family/loved ones as well.
Dementia should not restrict a person’s life and a person should not feel that their life is over because they have Dementia. People work hard in all aspects of life and they should be able to retire or live a life worry free. Prepare4care offer that solution by consistency with Care Workers, competency with highly trained and skilled Care Workers, and a support Network which allows an individual/family member to get the treatment, help and support they may not receive on their own. Prepare4care work with a multidisciplinary team to provide the best and high-quality support and care possible.
All Care Staff are infection control trained and Management will be monitoring the use of PPE and handwashing closely in line with company policies and procedures.
Therefore we are still able to provide Care Support for anyone in self-isolation with Covid-19.

Staffing and recruitment
● People were not always supported by staff who had been safely recruited. We reviewed three staff files. Full employment histories had not been consistently obtained and satisfactory explanations of gaps in employment had not been addressed. Some new staff had only completed the years they were employed and not included months. The registered manager could not be assured they knew the person's full employment history. One person's work history showed dates of employment different from those on the reference received from the employer. This had not been identified or addressed by the registered manager.
● During the inspection the registered manager updated the application form, in line with Schedule 3 of the Health and Social Care Act, to ensure future applications were in line with good practice. Following the inspection, the registered manager reviewed the whole recruitment process and created new supporting documents. They had begun to audit all staff files to identify and address further gaps. We will follow this up at the next inspection.
